Summer Experience L’Hospitalet 2017

With the goal of approach the latest technology to the neighbourhoods and the youngest, we designed a series of installations accompanying the Hospitalet Summer Experience, an outdoor festival for families organised by the City Council at Parc de la Marquesa. This is also the location of Torre Barrina, the Municipal Center of Multimedia Creation.

Using the Deep Learning Pix2Pix algorythm and a customized software by OpenFrameworks, the public was able to take a selfie and print it with a chosen pictorial style (Van Gogh, Cubism, Impressionism or Pop Art).

We also installed a board with a zenital camera which allowed the public to draw something and watch the painting created projected in a canvas with the chosen style.

To develop the installation we trained the neuronal network with thousands of pictures by the respective authors of each style, so it was able to synthesize it from a black and white drawing. When the night arrived the trees came to life with the public projected in real time with cameras that were distributed through the park.

Con el fin de acercar las últimas técnologias a los barrios y a los más pequeños, diseñamos una serie de instalaciones que acompañaban a L’Hospitalet Summer Experience, un festival al aire libre para toda la familia organizado por el Ayuntamiento el parque de la Marquesa, lugar donde se encuentra el Centro Municipal de Creación Multimedia, Torre Barrina.

Utilizando el algoritmo de Deep Learning Pix2Pix, y un software realizado a medida en OpenFrameworks, permitía que el público se pudiese hacer un selfie e imprimirlo eligiendo un estilo pictórico (Van Gogh, Cubismo, Impresionismo o Pop Art).

También se colocó una pizarra con una cámara cenital, que permitía al público realizar un dibujo y ver proyectado en un lienzo el cuadro creado a partir del dibujo con el estilo pictórico seleccionado.
Para desarrollar la instalación, se entrenó a la red neuronal con cientos de cuadros de los respectivos autores, de manera que a partir de un dibujo en blanco y negro, sintetizara un cuadro con el mismo estilo. Al caer la noche los árboles cobraban vida con el público proyectado a tiempo real con cámaras distribuidas por el parque.
